A Profile in Freedom: Greg Cross
American Patriot, Proud Union Member, and Christian
Why Greg is Supporting Bob Dixon:
“We need a senator who has a ‘git’ er done!’ attitude but at the same time tempers their ambitions with sound Christian values. Bob Dixon is that kind of man.”
Greg’s Story:
Greg is a five year veteran in the Springfield Public Schools transportation department where he serves as a bus attendant. He is self-described “die-hard member” of the Teamsters Local 245. “Nobody understands what it is to be Union until you are a member” says Greg, “and I’ll be Union until the day I die.” When asked what compelled him as a Union member to support Bob, Greg answered, “Honesty. Brutal honesty. What you see is what you get with Bob. He drives that beat up little truck and he lives in a common house located in an average area of town that sits on the edge of high crime area. He’s nobody special. He’s just Bob.”
Greg described what he’s looking for in an elected official. He says, “‘Grassroots’ isn’t a cliche, it is the hard working men and women who make this country great. We have to have people in office that won’t forget about us once they get into power. Their title will change, but for the bulk of us, our life will just remain as is. They must be our representative and our voice. Too often, they just use us to get to where they are going. We need to wake up and see who is using us, and who is listening to us.”
When asked about what issues are important to him, like many, Greg says he is worried about jobs and the economy but he doesn’t think that is any great revelation. “Everyone now understands the need for a turn-around in the economy. But what good is healthcare if we can’t even feed our families?” Greg cautions that jobs can’t be our only focus. “When jobs go south, domestic violence goes up. It’s just a fact.” He wants to see even more reform in domestic abuse laws and harsher penalties for crimes against minors. “Bob took a real stand in this area. We need consistent leaders who will stand on principle, and not stand on hollow party platforms and empty promises. Bob is that kind of leader, and I am proud to support him.”
Greg shares his enthusiasm, “I tell my buddies at the shop, ‘If you want a liberal, then don’t vote for him. But if you want someone who is going to remember you once he gets to Jeff City, then Bob’s your man.’” He continued, “You won’t find another legislator like him. I tell them, ‘His door is always open, you are always welcome, and he will always listen.’ I know first-hand that Bob hasn’t forgotten where he came from.” Greg says, “Bob Dixon is the same 24/7. He treats the members of the Local 245 the same way he treats everybody else. He’ll come down to our shop and sit and eat donuts and drink coffee with us and take the time to really listen.”
