Thank you to the voters of Greene County who helped pass Proposition C on Aug. 3. Missouri is the first state in the nation whose citizens have formally rejected federally mandated health insurance. Going forward, many wonder what will happen as a result of Prop C’s passage.

It is only a matter of time before Missouri finds itself in a lawsuit, either with the federal government or with groups that have a financial or political interest in the federal health care bill.

While we can argue the merits of mandated, government insurance, I want to make readers aware of a few realities that could affect us in Missouri. Over the next four years, states are now mandated to expand their welfare rolls in order to cover hundreds of millions of new enrollees. In Missouri, some estimates put our cost close to half a billion dollars. This is money Missouri does not have.

Health care, education and the economy are all connected. The best form of health insurance is a quality job that offers employees the ability to make their own insurance decisions. The best job-creation tool a state can have is a trained work force through a quality education system. If Missouri is forced to pour millions into welfare expansion, we will not be able to invest in the things that will help us prosper.

The country’s economic downturn has Missouri looking at double-digit unemployment rates and severe budget shortfalls in the coming years. Without even considering welfare expansion, talk of raising taxes or cutting education is already being thrown around in Jefferson City. Those voices will only get louder if we are forced to appease big government forces in Washington and expand our welfare rolls.

Missourians cannot afford job-killing taxes during tough economic times, and schools are already trimming everywhere they can in order to continue providing the best education for our children.

On Aug. 3, Missouri said NO to mandated, government insurance. Now we have to ensure that our position is upheld.

With the passage of Prop C, the health care debate is not over. In reality, it has just begun and Missouri’s prosperity depends on the outcome.

Springfield, Mo – Bob Dixon (R-Springfield) has received the endorsement of Missourians United for Life in his campaign to become Springfield’s next state senator. During his life in public service, Dixon has long been an abortion opponent and has passed several pieces of legislation protecting the innocent life of the unborn. The organization, which is dedicated to protecting the sanctity of the lives of unborn children across the state, cited Dixon’s willingness to lead the way on several key issues in the awarding him a “Served with Distinction” honor.

“Bob Dixon has been a long time friend of the pro-life movement,” said Dr. Bob Onder, executive director of Missourians United for Life. “Because of the leadership of people like Bob, Missouri has become a national leader in protecting innocent life. For that reason, Bob is going to be a great addition to the State Senate.”

During his time in the legislature, Dixon has helped pass several pieces of pro-life legislation. The most recent victory for the pro-life community came this past year when Missouri was able to pass legislation that requires a pregnant mother to be fully informed of the health risks both to herself and to her child prior to an abortion procedure. Over the past few years, much progress has been made regarding the right to life movement. Among other things, Missouri has banned partial birth abortions, set up strict health standards on abortion clinics and procedures, and required that parents be active in the decision of minors to have an abortion.

“We see government come up short today on so many levels, that’s not the case when it comes to the pro-life cause in Missouri,” said Dixon. “The work we have accomplished over the past few years have been tremendous, but there is still more to be done. I look forward to doing my part in the State Senate.”

Dixon is running to be state senator in the 30th district in the city of Springfield. He currently serves as state representative for the 140th district representing eastern Springfield and eastern Greene County. Dixon received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in education from Drury University. He has been active in numerous community organizations during his life in Springfield. Bob and his wife Amanda have three girls, Grace, Rose, and Olivia Dixon.

Release Date: July 15, 2010

Dixon Receives Broad Support in Large Fundraising Haul – Cites Campaign’s Focus on Job Creation, Smaller Government

Springfield, Mo – Bob Dixon (R-Springfield) reported today that his campaign took in $117,121 in contributions during the second quarter of 2010 in his race to take the senate seat currently held by Sen. Norma Champion. Dixon says that the support is coming from a broad coalition of people that are disenchanted with government today. He says that he is receiving support from a number of conservatives, independents, democrats, and republicans across the city of Springfield.

“This continues to be a humbling experience to say the least,” said Dixon. “To have the support of so many people from so many different backgrounds is really rare in today’s political climate. I can’t express how thankful I am for the outpouring of support we have received.”

Dixon believes that the reason for his success thus far is that people are concerned about how government approaches our economic crisis and the need for more jobs. He said a lot of Springfield residents seem to be disenchanted with the way politicians in Washington and Jefferson City have handled themselves and are looking for a different approach to the problems we face. Dixon has a long conservative record during his time in public service but has never been afraid to listen to differing ideas.

“My door is always open. I am comfortable enough in my belief that less government is better government in order to have open and honest discussions with people of different political beliefs,” said Dixon. “Government should always be about bringing people together to face the challenges of the day. Many politicians look at that as a bad thing – I don’t.”

Many believe that this philosophy lead to his campaign reporting $129,844 cash on hand for the general election that will be held on November 2nd. Dixon faces no primary challenger on August 3rd but will face election in November. Dixon’s democrat challenger for that election reported having only $7,515 available as of June 30th.

Dixon currently serves as state representative for the 140th district representing eastern Springfield and eastern Greene County. Dixon has received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in education from Drury University. He has been active in numerous community organizations during his life in Springfield. Bob and his wife Amanda have three girls, Grace, Rose, and Olivia Dixon.

In Midst of Budget Crunch, Dixon Transfers Half of Office Budget to General Fund

Springfield, Mo – Rep. Bob Dixon has opted to allow over half of his office budget to be transferred to the state treasury in order to help the state make ends meet. State revenues in Missouri were again down in the month of May by nearly 8% and the governor has made hundreds of million of dollars worth of withholdings from his budget. Dixon cited those realities as the reason for the decision to make spending reductions in his own office.

“For the past year families have been making tough decisions, trying to figure out what they can live with out in order to make ends meet. We need to treat our own budgets the same way,” said Dixon. “Compared to the hole we are facing, it isn’t a huge sum of money, but if every state official were to cut back on their spending, even a little bit, the state would see a large savings.”

Dixon allowed over half of his operating budget from his capitol office to be transferred into the general revenue fund on July 1st. A typical legislator’s office budget is broken down into two categories, personnel and operations. The amount in savings because of Dixon’s decision comes to a total of $5,200, about 54% of a nearly ten thousand dollar operations budget. During his time in the legislature, Dixon also has made it a practice to not be reimbursed for mileage accumulated while traveling around the district, a practice of which several legislators take advantage.

“Part of our job as legislators is to be prudent with people’s money, I take that very seriously,” said Dixon. “In tough times like these, that responsibility is magnified greatly and every dollar we save can go to help areas like job creation, crime prevention, and education.”

Dixon’s actions come in addition to reductions passed by the General Assembly during the legislative session that ended in May. During that session, the House of Representatives cut their overall budget by 5%, which translates to just over a half million dollars for the upcoming 2011 fiscal year.

Dixon is the Republican candidate for State Senate in Springfield’s 30th district. He currently serves as State Representative in the 140th district, representing eastern Springfield and Greene County. Dixon received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University and his master’s degree from Drury University. He has been active in numerous community organizations during his life in Springfield. Bob and his wife Amanda have three girls, Grace, Rose, and Olivia Dixon.

Dixon’s Commitment to Education, Fiscal Responsibility Recognized by Election to Education Board

Springfield, Mo – Bob Dixon (R-Springfield) will be assisting children in Springfield and across the state of Missouri to receive additional education on fiscal responsibility. Dixon’s active role in the Springfield community and dedication to educating children has resulted in his selection to the board of trustees of the Missouri Council on Economic Education. Dixon said he is looking forward to serving because the board promotes financial and economic education, an area of education in which proficiency among today’s youth is lacking.

“This board is filling a void that is badly needed in our society and I can’t wait to begin our work,” said Dixon. “Every day we are bombarded with information about rising debt, get rich quick schemes, and credit offers too good to be true. In this economic climate, knowledge and discipline about money and the economy is essential to building a stronger future.”
Dixon praised the council’s purpose, stating that because of declining state revenues, funding for classrooms is already taking a hit. He said not-for-profit organizations that help supplement the education that children receive from their schools should be promoted all the time, but especially during budget crunches like the one in which we find ourselves in Missouri. According to many, Dixon’s background and history of supporting the education system in the state of Missouri made him a shoe-in to be named to a board like the MCEE.

“Bob is with out a doubt a strong supporter of Missouri schools, teachers, and students,” said Dr. Rebecca Burrrell, a long time educator and faculty member with the Drury University School of Education and Child Development. “His experience in private business and his proven fiscal responsibility combine to make him a timely and excellent choice for this organization.”

Dixon is the Republican candidate for State Senate in Springfield’s 30th district. The seat is currently held by term limited Sen. Norma Champion. He currently serves as State Representative for the 140th district representing eastern Springfield and Greene County. Dixon received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University and his master’s degree from Drury University. He has been active in numerous community organizations during his life in Springfield. Bob and his wife Amanda have three girls, Grace, Rose, and Olivia Dixon.

SPRINGFIELD, MO — Springfield Firefighters Local 152 and the Missouri State Council of Firefighters will both announce their endorsement of Rep. Bob Dixon’s candidacy for the 30th District Missouri State Senate seat at a rally with area firefighters to be held Monday.

The announcement rally is set for 9:00 am Monday, November 23, at Springfield Firefighters Local 152 headquarters, 2350 N. Clifton in Springfield.

Bob Dixon has been a long-time friend and advocate of firefighters in Southwest Missouri. His dedication to public safety and the health and wellbeing of our first responders has earned him our endorsement.

We look forward to having Bob Dixon elected to the Senate in 2010 and will work to assist him in achieving that honor.
